DNA Criminal Investigation, Crime Prevention And Detection
DNA stands for Deoxyribonucleic Acid. It is a molecule not just found in the cells of people but, animals and plants.
DNA holds the genetic code that makes us all very unique. Our height, sex, hair, eye colour and other personal features contribute to the variations in the code. 50% of our DNA was inherited from each parent. Siblings are more likely to have similar DNA than unrelated people.
Imagine a tangled knot of very thin strands; that is how DNA exists in the cells of our body but it is invisible. If we straightened it out, the DNA from each cell would stretch to two metres long. It is difficult to imagine that we have more than six feet of it inside a cell and it is actually invisible to the human eye!
If we took the DNA from all the cells in our body it would stretch to the sun and back not once or twice but a whopping 500 times. We have more than 45,000,000,000 miles of DNA!

Street Smart Crime Prevention
The first step in crime prevention is to develop an awareness and presence of mind to spot potential dangers in advance and take steps to avoid them. Naturally, the degree of alertness you should employ depends on your environment. At home, the workplace and friend’s homes you can of course drop your guard, however, when traveling or when out in public your guard should be up.
When out in strange surroundings, stay alert, walk with a purpose, and be attentive to your surroundings. If you feel suspicious of the area or people around you prepare yourself mentally for an attack. Think of a plan of action you would follow if you were to be attacked. Consider where you could run to for help such as the nearest police station, retail shop or restaurant.
When entering a public area, do a quick scan of your surroundings for possible trouble. Make a mental note of anyone too loud and obnoxious, the drunks, and the brooding loners. Note exits, cull-de-sacks, and always sit facing the entrance.
Posture Another component of awareness and deterrent is posture. Your posture is part of your body language. Good posture and a solid fluid walk communicate to people around you a sense of confidence and strength. Criminals often target victims that appear weak and easy to intimidate. Consciously or instinctively, they tend to choose people whose body language communicates a weak and vulnerable disposition. Good posture sends out signals that indicate strength, confidence, and awareness, thereby helping to prevent an attack. Most criminals would think twice about attacking someone with such a confident posture and would simply wait for a more suitable victim to come by. Read the rest of this entry »
